The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work

One of the books I recommend to couples is John Gottman’s The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. This book explains why men and women communicate and process information differently, gives easy exercises to build into your relationship every day, and is full of practical information that can make a large impact on your marriage.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a [email protected]

This book is a hilarious dive into the world of becoming aware of and changing your own thinking and values. I love Mark’s voice in this book and the way he voices that we are all responsible for our own problems, and we are all capable of changing how we think and feel. This is a great book if you are struggling to find happiness in your day to day life whether you feel bored, depressed, anxious, or downright disappointed with how your life is at this moment. The Tao of Pooh

Taoism teaches a person to “flow with life” as The Personal Tao explains in their article Taoism 101. This book is short, straightforward, and unique in that Benjamin Hoff uses one of America’s favorite characters, Winnie the Pooh, to explain the philosophy of Tao. I’m not recommending Taoism the way of life (although it’s amazing and wouldn’t recommend against it), but I think this book is a great way for people to help accept themselves and life for what it is, detach from thoughts that aren’t helpful for them, and change their perspectives. This book is a breeze to read at only 158 pages and you can buy it on Amazon here used for only a dollar. If you’re going through any kind of stressful period in your life like you have been feeling depressed or are thinking about making a change or are unhappy with yourself in any way, I highly recommend The Tao of Pooh.
